He has an unhappy marriage, which supposedly fits in the idea of the American dream. The couple as a result of unhappiness and emptiness tries to medicate its pain with alcohol. But the real way out of the situation should be sincere inner discussion and setting the actual real goals and values in the life, not simply following the accepted and common model. A person can only be happy when he lives in harmony with his soul. When Macomber finally frees of fear he dies; but he dies as a happy and free person. I believe the death took place to emphasize that the main goal of the person is to find the inner harmony. When the person achieves the inner peace all other physical aspects no longer matter, and death becomes a symbol of the end of the successful inner search.

In the story ?Soldier?s Home? the theme of the idol, American dream, is again portrayed by Hemingway. The society believes that everyone has to work, go to church and fit in the other conservative Midwest?s stereotypes. But what the society doesn?t realize is that there are some other things besides the physical world.

He described the

He described the
difference between successful and passive persons. What
struck me though was his statement at the end. It took him
7 years to “find his focus”. Now this is what I have been
looking for – you see: He did not quit. He kept on trying
’till he became successful – He did not quit.

Here are some of Mike’s differences between successful and
passive people:

They’re always passive at their jobs.

They go for their dreams very “safely”.

They “La De Da” through life.

They “hope” something good happens.

From my experience, this is not the right attitude for
success.

“No way, Jose”.

Let me share with you an ACTION of success.
Let me share with you a PERSPECTIVE of success that I’ve
seen through people who are living their dreams, both
personally and financially.

**Successful people…

ACT from a sense of URGENCY.

Let me say that again.

**Successful people ACT from a sense of URGENCY.

There’s an URGENCY to accomplish tasks.

There’s an URGENCY to live their dreams.

There’s an URGENCY to get things done.

They’re ATTACKING vs. WAITING.

Big difference.

Huge difference.

You have to go to dreams with a SENSE OF URGENCY.

None of us are going to live ’till 150 years old.

You have to ignite that part of you that can CATAPULT you
to GREATER productivity and ACTION.

Ask yourself:

If I was going to act from a sense of URGENCY, what 2
actions would I take today?

Write them down and then DO IT.

Come on, YOU can do more than you EXPECT of yourself.

You can do it.

YES, you can!

Are you ready or really ready to make your next 7 days
awesome?

I thought so, let’s go!

Have a GREAT day and never give up on your dreams! (It took
me 7 years to find my focus, it’s not over until you
quit).

Talk to you soon.

The show originally aired on September 19, 1999. The show has appearances by John Crow as a cook, Dr. Amy Trubeck as the food anthropologist, Steven Pitts as a child who is eating pasta, Joe Brown as a cook, Luigi Martinelli as a pasta maker, Kelly Braun as a Tupperware Party Lady, and Phyllis Cook as a Tupperware Lady as well.

The star of this episode is, of course, dried pasta. The show opens with AB and food anthropologist, Dr. Amy Trubeck discussing the history of pasta. It apparently started in and around, surprise, Italy and China. Its popularity can be attributed to the fact that it uses the grains the cultures were using anyway and it is easier to prepare than bread is.

Great emphasis is paid to the pasta itself. The trend in US cuisine is to emphasize the sauce and not the pasta, AB tries to change that mentality. He also is quick to point out that dried pasta is in no way inferior to fresh, merely different.

Mid way through the episode, we see how dried pasta is made. It is one of those things that you have probably given very little thought to.

All too often because of

All too often because of our assumptions we do not deliver what was expected.

Here are some examples of vagueness. What assumptions are you making when you interpret them?

?Go and increase morale in the team?

?Make sure that they fully appreciate our efforts?

?Spend more time on customer relations?

Being a Champion of Clarity

First off, to be a Champion of Clarity you have to recognise that communication is full of assumption. A Champion of Clarity recognises the pitfalls of assumption both as a speaker and as a listener.

As a listener they are only too aware of the following phrase:

?The meaning of your communication is the response that you get?

As such a Champion of Clarity takes responsibility for ensuring that their communication is fully understood.

As a listener they recognise that they often interact with Victims of Vagueness and they take steps to avoid relegation from a Champion of Clarity by ensuring that they fully understand the intention of the communication behind the words that they hear.

Good ways of ensuring understanding is getting sensory cues that provide the evidence of the successful future desired outcome.

In response to the vague statements above a Champion of Clarity would ask something like:

?And when I have increased morale in the team, what will let you know that it has been done well??

?What is it that will let them know that we put in effort in a way that should be recognised??

?And when we are spending more time on customer relations, what will you see and hear??

However, the specific risks that increase because of passive smoking are not well known. The majority of people cited chest infections and increased risk of asthma as the most common outcomes of passive smoking. Two more common outcomes of environmental tobacco smoke in infants are cot death and glue ear (ear infection), but this was not recognised by most respondents in the survey. Despite this, two thirds of smokers say that they do not smoke in the same room as children and a quarter state that they would smoke less in the company of a child because of their knowledge of the dangers of secondary smoke.

In order to protect children, there are a number of things that parent should do to try and minimise their child’s exposure to tobacco smoke:

Smokers should try to smoke only outside. If you must smoke inside limit smoking to a room where you can open windows to allow adequate ventilation.

I ended up buying a large plastic swimming pool and adding play sand so we don’t get so dirty. That is fun too but not as fun as the dirt and water. Now we are confined to the sandbox. We still do our roads and castles but no mud cakes.

When I was growing up my grandmothers were too busy to even sit down and chat with me let alone play a game with me, or read a book to me. Kids were to be seen and not heard when I was growing up. When my daughter told me she was pregnant, I made up my mind that I wasn’t going to be like my grandmothers. I was going to grow up with my grandson. And that is just what I am doing. I have played with the baby rattles, squeeze toys, little and big cars and trucks, you name the little boys toys and I probably played with it with my grandson.

So what I am saying, if you are a grandparent, make time for your grandchildren.

I then wondered how

I then wondered how many other radio and television stations around the world would feature Elvis Presley that day. Then I marveled at how many times this wonderful singer, who died more than 35 years ago, was being listened to or watched and by how many people.

What I am getting at here is the body of work that this one man has left and the joy that he still brings to millions of people every year. Here is a man, even in death, who is still contributing to the world.

So, I ask you this. What legacy will you leave? What will you be remembered for? What body of work will survive your passing?

Get to it, my friend, write that book, sing that song, paint that picture, finish that sculpture. Do your thing, whatever it might be. Achieve your life goals. Create a legacy for others to enjoy. An added bonus is that you too will enjoy the fruits of your labour while you are still alive. You can do it. Millions of others have. Why not you? Elvis did.

And for the details, use

And for the details, use light-colored cabinets with glass doors and create more storage inside cabinet doors to place tiny bits and pieces.

As for your small kitchen remodeling design appliances, install deeper counters to accommodate more appliances and increase workspace. There are now many compact space-saving appliances in the market for your choosing ? 24-in. deep ref?s, microwaves that can be hung underneath cabinets, etc. But when it comes to the sink, keep it big. Large kitchen sinks are always practical especially in cleaning up huge pots and pans, and, keeping a party.

Another trick that you can do in your small kitchen remodeling design? ? Installing under-cabinet or under-the-counter lighting. With the right kind of lighting you can make your kitchen appear bigger and so much more inviting.

Scholarship set up to honor crash victim:

0 Comments | Charleston Daily Mail, Aug 12, 2010

By CHARLOTTE FERRELL SMITH

DAILY MAIL STAFF

On a cold December day, Steven McCormick exchanged hugs and the words “I love you” with his mother and stepfather.

Shortly thereafter his car skidded on an icy patch of road, causing a crash that claimed his life at the age of 21.

Jeannie and Roger Hughes, his mother and stepfather, miss him every day and want to do something to honor him and his passion for music. A scholarship for the fall semester has been established at the prestigious Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University in Nashville where the winner may take a class geared to songwriters and guitarists.

“This is about a talented young man whose life was cut short,” Roger said.

Steven began taking piano lessons when he was about 5 and guitar lessons at age 12. However, for the most part he was self-taught and could play many instruments. His family has notebooks filled with songs that he wrote.

He lived in Milton and worked as an electrician while pursuing his dream of a musical career.

His family hopes that dream can come alive in another aspiring musician. His musical interests ranged from rock to ballads and soulful songs.

“He was a real prodigy,” Roger said. “His work should be on a label.”

At age 14 he was performing for anniversary celebrations and by 15 he was hired to provide music for weddings.

His dream was to move to Nashville and pursue a career as a professional musician.

A good way to honor him would be to help someone else pursue that dream, Roger said.

Jeannie said her son was a giving person who would appreciate such a gesture. Steven lived alone and often shared his home with friends who were in the military and awaiting a tour of duty. After Steven’s death Dec. 30, 2009, she found checks left behind by friends who had stayed with him and wanted to pay a portion of rent or utilities. He never cashed them.

He lived life passionately his parents said. He was close to his sister, 25-year-old Lindsay, and never got to meet his nephew. Lindsay and Jason Philabaun are the parents of 5-month-old Evan.
